Sunday School is bringing to a close its regular program, as are the public schools; and everyone is getting ready for vacations, which go from October through December.

In the diocese we are preparing projects for children and teenagers, such getting ready for a worsksop for the preparation of young people in the area of Vacation Bible School 97.

The week of November 10 to 15 we will hold a workshop, in which young people are trained and enabled to lead the Vacation Bible School. The areas of preparation include Pre-school, Kindergarten, Primary and High School.

The material that will be used has been previously assembled by the Department of Christian Formation, under the coordination of the Rev. Deacon Salvador Antonio Velásquez Ramos.

The material’s content includes subjects taken from selected Bible passages, especially from the propers of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, the Offices of Instruction I and II, the Catechism, Songs for children in the Anglican Hymnal and others, appropriate crafts for each lesson, group games and dramas.

Each of the parishes, missions, chapels, and preaching centers has to participate, sending their young people to the preparation and training workshop. Results will be magnificent if we can find young teachers to continue in the fortification of the Sunday School in 1998 in their respective parishes, missions, chapels and preaching centers.

Immediately following the week of training of uyoung teachers, there will begin the Vacation Bible School program in each church. In some, the program will be synchronized, but in those churches who don’t have the necessary personnel, the program will be effected upon completion of the first step. Here, it will be necessary to go for a few days and to cover the costs of transportation, room and board for the team of teachers, generally pertaining to the churches farthest away from the diocesan seat. In some cases churches are without adequate space. Family homes of members are used, community meeting rooms, schools, nurseries in marketplaces, or even in open areas, beneath a tree.

We offer a cordial invitation to participate with your prayers, time and financial support. Send your children, remembering the Lord’s exhortation in Saint Matthew 19.13-14.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who hast committed to thy holy Church the care and nurture of thy childrenñ Enlighten with thy wisdom those who teach and those who learn, that, rejoicing in the knowledge of thy truth, they may worship thee and serve thee from generation to generation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
